JAAOS Online SUBSCRIBER HELP & SERVICES:

Frequently Asked Questions about Individual (Non-Member) Subscriptions

  1. Will I receive a password? May I share my password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

When you complete the subscription process, you will receive a Subscriber Number; this also appears on your mailing label. When you activate your JAAOS online subscription, you will set up a user name and a password. You are the only one licensed to use this password.

  2. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Details about how to do this will be included as part of the activation process.

  3. Why should I get an Individual Subscription to JAAOS?

    Individual Subscribers have access to:
Tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, future tables of contents, and the advantage of having password access to JAAOS Online from any computer connected to the Internet.

  4. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed? How do I get my institution to subscribe?

If your institution has an online subscription to JAAOS, you should be able to view the full text of the current issue of the journal. You can tell if your librarian has activated the electronic version, if you see a button at the top of the page confirming you're signed in as part of an institution. If you would like to have an institutional subscription, or to request they activate the online version, please contact your local librarian.

  5. Will I still be able to get the print version? For how long?

Yes, individuals and institutions will continue to receive the print version for the foreseeable future.

  6. Who is eligible for an Individual (Non-Member) Subscription?

Subscriptions to JAAOS and access to JAAOS Online are included as a benefit of membership in the Academy. Subscriptions to JAAOS are also provided to residents and postgraduate fellows in specified orthopaedic and osteopathis programs. Information about membership in AAOS can be found on the Academy website. Individuals who are not eligible for membership, or choose not to become members, may secure an Individual Non-Member Subscription, providing them with a print and electronic version of the journal. Members and Non-Members may also have access to JAAOS Online through an Institutional Subscription. Institutional Subscriptions are somewhat more limited than Individual Subscriptions because full-text access outside of the institution's network (e.g. home access) is not available. AAOS Members are the only individuals who can receive an electronic-only subscription to JAAOS Online.

  7. How can I access JAAOS Online if I am not a member of AAOS and I don't have access through an institutional subscription?

You may wish to apply for AAOS membership or you may wish to purchase an Individual (Non-Member) print subscription which provides access to the electronic version. Without a subscription you have access to Tables of contents, abstracts, and full text searching (without full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.

  8. How do I become a member of AAOS?

Information about AAOS Membership and application forms are available from AAOS.
